Well, that was when they were discussing a deal, then Jim died very shortly before it could be finalized. After several legal battles, Jim Henson Productions and Disney mutually ended merger negotiations in December 2001.
The infamous mouse house has been trying to get it's white gloved paws on the Jim Henson Co. since 1989. The first merger attempt fell apart in the after Jim Henson's sudden death in 1990. The Henson family actually sold Kermit & Co. to the German media company EM.TV a few years ago, only to buy them back last year at a steep discount after EM.TV suffered a financial collapse.
So why the crap did the kids sell th Muppets to Disney? Beats me. Crazy kids.

Lookie what I found at a thift store! For 53 cents! Which is, oddly the same price I got a Great Muppet Caper McDonald's glass at the Salvation army store in NH someplace.
