Aits hardware was built by a human. And now a human will shut it down saying these words Riker deactivates Data. Pinocchio is now broken his strings have been cut. Rikers argument is clear Data is an artificial machine built by humans to serve their purposes as such it is subject to human choices and can be turned off . Being a machine its only value is what is attributed to it by its creators. However there is one aspect which right from the start contradicts at least in part Rikers theses Data has received medals of honor and other awards conferments which usually are due only to humans and which certainly are not given to computer or objects.
