The next day Indy returned in a carrige to the ship, Long John Silver greeted her, sadly but his sympathy was only for her, not for her love who laid, as far as John knew, at death's door.
"Capitan?" John opened the door to the carrige. Indy took his hand, stepping out slowly. She look extremely tired. "How is he?"
"Dead." She spoke in barely a whisper, then louder, more diplomatic, "I have given up my capitan duties for the time being and they will now go to Capitan Kermit Smollett, who will be arriving shortly. I'll be in my cabin if anyone needs me." She gave a glance to John and walked onto the ship. John watched her go, then watched the carriage leave. He wondered what would happen to Jack, if the other three men Athos had been with should find him. The John went onto the ship to tell the others of Indy's news.

"New capitan?" Rizzo looked a little worried. "What about Jack? He's a capitan, ain't he?"
"Well, if she really loved the guy as much as everyone hinted and her own brother ended up killing him, I'd say she'd be a bit distressed, Riz. She needs the time off. And I doubt she even wants her brother on board, let alone capitaning her ship." Gonzo shrugged, frowning, wondering if "capitaning" was a real word then decided he didn't care. He polished an apple off Jim's sleeve. Young Jim looked down at Gonzo, but gave no real discuraging look.
Jim shook his head, "Poor capitan. I suppose we should swab the deck and make sure the place looks it's best for Capt. Smollett."
"I hear he's one of the toughest Capitan's around." John said to the boys.
"Great." Rizzo muttered. Jim grabbed some mops and buckets and headed out. Rizzo and Gonzo followed. They diccussed the fears of having a new capitan as they cleaned the deck. A while later Indy stepped out of her cabin door. The boys fell silent, but continued to work. John stepped out a few moments later and looked surprised to see her. He went over to her, standing beside her, grabbing the rail for support instead of his crutch.
"Capitan?"
"Yes, John?"
"I'm terribly sorry.. About everything."
"Dont be. You're not the one who pulled the trigger, are you, John."
"No, ma'am I didn't, but... Well... What i wanted to ask was... What's happened to Jack? I haven't seen him since yesterday, and if those men--"
"Jack's fine. I told Porthos, Aramis and D'artagnan not to touch him. They won't. And I suspect Jack will be back on this ship quite soon once he's heard what's happened to Athos. He'll be keen on avoiding a trial, my brother." She nearly spat the word. John felt a little guilty for even asking about Jack.
"Smollett will be here soon?"
Indy nodded.
"What would you care for dinner, ma'am?" John's second atempt to change the subject.
"I don't think I'll be very hungry, John. Anything you please. No frog legs." She said almost as an after thought and walked back into her cabin.
"I'll notify you when Smollett arrives." John called after her before her door shut. He gave a look to the boys, who suddenly went back to cleaning, as he went back in the kitchen.

A man in his mid-30s walked out of a large carrige. The crew had lined up for the arrival of Capitan Smollett. Indy stood at the middle of the gangplank, while the crew stood on the dock to either side in straight lines, trying to look their best.
The man who stepped out wore very nice looking clothes, but no capitan's hat. Not that it mattered, Indy didn't wear one either, usually. His long bllond hair reached almost to his back and was tied a little below his neck to keep the wind from making a fuss with it. He gave a smile to Indy. The crew was perplexed. Was this the capitan Smollett they had all heard about? The tyrant of the seven seas? Apparently not. The man stepped aside, his serious look coming back and he opened the door.
A frog in a capitan's hat and white wig stepped out, observing the ship. His large eyes fell on Indy, giving her a deeply concerned look. He nodded to the crew, walking towards her. The blonde man closed the door and followed the frog. Long John Silver now understood why Indy had mentioned not to have frog legs for dinner.
"Capitan Sparrow, I'm sorry to hear about your friend." The frog spoke sincerely.
Indy gave a tight smile and nodded, "Thank you. And thank you for agree to capitan my ship." She spoke in a low tone. The crew was unable to hear her.
"I understand. You're very welcome. I should be thanking you," the capitan frog said, "I haven't been able to find a ship for several monthes now. And now I find on with an able crew, and a second capitan. You're not, by any chance related to Jack Sparrow, are you? The nortorious pirate?"
"I am, actually... unfortunatly. He's my brother. He will be joining us. I will keep him out of your way, if you wish. But I havent seen him in a day. I'm not entirely sure he will be returning..." Indy said, as if she were talking about the weather.
"Well, thank you again, Capitan Sparrow." Smollett smiled, then turned to address the crew, "Men, I am Kermit Smollett, your new and temporary capitan. However you will treat me as if I had been with you for several voyages and with all the respect you've shown Capitan Sparow here. Futhermore you will still obey Mrs. Sparrow as if she had not declined from her posistion. Understood?"
A series of "ayes" and such were heard among the crowd.
"Capitan, if you could, show my servent around. He'll relate to me of your ship. I'd like to inspect the crew."
Indy nodded and walked off with the man.
"It's quite an honer to meet you, ma'am." The man said in a soft tone.
Indy gave a breif smile, "Thank you. What was your name? I don't believe the capitan mentioned it."
"Whitmire, miss. Steven Whitmire*."
Indy gave another smile, then gave him a tour of the ship.
They walked to the girl's quarters, and Indy wasn't about to let Steve see inside, but then heard something going on in them. She gave a look to him, and Steve politely stepped back as the capitan disappeared inside. Miss Piggy was powdering her nose. She turned quickly seeing the capitan and looked positively furious, then surprised and innocent, then very upset.
"Is he here?"
"Capitan Smollett? Yes. Why aren't you out with the others?" Indy spoke a little sharply.
"I can't. I mean, I can't unless you want a dead frog on your deck." Piggy spoke the last sentence venomously.
"What does that mean?" Indy spoke equally angry.
"That poor excuse for a frog left me standing at the alter, Capitan!" Piggy squeeled furiously, then lowered her voice. "So, I do not wish to see him at this time." She spoke matter-of-factly and returned to the mirror mounted securely to the wall.
Indy sighed, shrugging, "Alright then..." Usually she would not have been so lax, especially with this new capitan whom she very much wanted to impress, but he was already displeased with Jack Sparrow possibly being aboard... A angry ex-fiance pig wouldn't help the matter.
Indy stepped out of the quarters. Steven looked at her concernedly, "Everything alright, Miss?"
"Yes fine. A cat was running about. One of the girl's." Indy shrugged, and walked to another part of the ship, Jack's quarters. She had had the men remove his belongings and chuck them into the men's quarters. Smollet would reside here now. Faith had not returned from shopping, but Indy would let her know of the changed plans. She would have to stay with the other girls. "This is Capitan Smollett's quarters. First mate quarters they would be, usually, but I've moved Jack's things out. You'll have to sleep in the mens quarters as well."
"That's fine, ma'am." Steve smiled politely, giving a small nod.
"Good, then..." She showed him to the kitchens and the rest of the ship, chatting with him the way through.
"How long have you been in Smollett's employment?"
"Since I was a boy. My parents were too poor to pay much of anything by the time I was 16 and sold me to a very wealthy man, who then threw me in the stables when he found a more 'suitable house severent'. A very pretty young girl. That was in the same year. I was selling a horse for the man when I met Capitan Smollett. Nearly ran the poor frog over with the horse. Then I found out who he was, I nearly wet myself. You know how his reputation is. Turns out that's greatly exageratted." Steve laughed a little.
Indy chuckled a well, "Oh yes, I know. Still he seems rather stern."
"Oh yes, he can be. He likes to see things done. He likes to see people work to their fullest potiental. But by no means is he some evil tyrant like people make him out to be." The smile didn't leave his face, "By no means."
((*Steve Whitmire is Kermit, Rizzo and Bean Bunny's performer. I thought the idea of him being Smollett's mansevernt was adorable and I couldn't resist. Plus I'm totally in love with him and have been ever since Nickolodoen showed the "Secret of the Muppets" episode of "the Jiim Henson Hour" on TV back in 92 or so.))
