Note: Elves have dark blue to pale blue skin tone and pointed ears.
Loosely related to the book series by Tad Williams. Roughly it's a story about the war between elves and humans. Centuries ago, the humans rose against the dominion of the elves by using the power of dragons, pushing the elves and other fantastic creatures into a twilight zone, called Shadowmarch , separated from the "real" world by the Shadowline. Now roughly three years ago, the barrier lost its power, and the elves reconquered the human world, enslaving the few humans they did not kill.
The old human king, Orlén, had captured an elvish woman and forced her to give him children, thinking they'd have elvish powers. She gave birth to twins before taking her life, Prince Barrick and Princess Briony. Barrick was born with a crippled arm and never thought of taking the power, mostly because of his older brother, a picture book prince called Kendrick, tall, strong and a good fighter.
The elvish King, Yffir, took Briony for his wife and made her elf, but as he was ancient, he sort of lost his power, and was overthrown by the Commander of his army, Cynthia (Barrick and Briony's aunt), who replaced him with Lord Anderson.
With new characters come new mysteries. Cynthia's sister, Lumen, once thought dead, has returned and reclaims her daughter, but not her son. She has brought with her, Wikus, a deformed slave who appears to be neither a slave nor deformed. At least in the company of the dragons. In truth he is half human and half dragon, and why is Galahad acting so strange around him?
Sassy has given birth to a elven child and a great change has come over Saxon. But will it last? Will Anderson allow Sassy to remain an elf after revealing his new power of reversing turning humans into elves? Will Cynthia, as his soon to be queen, be able to hold any power at all, or is Anderson finding new ways to tease, test, and torment her?

CHARACTERS:
SONJA
Barrick - (Eddie Redmayne) - human appearance, half elf/human - 18, but looks like 16 because of his elvish blood, which makes him age slower. He's got a crippled lower arm, his left one. Cynthia had healed that once, but when he'd stepped out of line she'd maimed him again. Barrick grew up admiring his elder brother Kendrick ( Wash) who was destined to be the heir. When Barrick was six, his brother disappeared and was thought dead until recently when Anderson brought him to the Capital. Barrick has a twin sister, Briony, and they used to be rather one mind in two bodied, inseparable, before the war. Then Briony was changed into an elf, and now she believes Barrick tried to murder her son and hates him for that. Maybe she also hates him because he's the only remaining reminder of her human past. Barrick is very loyal to his friends, and tried to live up to his brother's shadow all his life. He tries to be brave, courageous and a fighter, but often enough he's very scared beneath it. He's Cynthia's nephew, but that makes things worse not better, as his mother, Cynthia's only sister, was kidnapped by the king and forced to bear him children - Briony and Barrick. Barrick had a romance with Shirelyn, one of Cynthia's closest friends, a captain in the army. When it was uncovered, they were both punished and she has not come close to him since.
Briony - (Emma Watson) - elvish appearance, half elf/human - She is exactly as old as her twin Barrick. When Southcastle fell to the elves, Briony was taken by the king. Why exactly he decided to take her no one knows. Maybe he really loves her, but as Yffir is a rather mysterious character it can't be said for sure. Briony was first kept like a bird in a golden cage, often mistreated, and utterly isolated. Maybe it's because of that that she's slightly out of the loop. She's born the king two children after becoming an elf and being crowned his queen - Barrick and Lysander, two children. She is desperate to be loved by Yffir whom she equally fears and adores, and wants to be accepted as an elf, to erase all memories of her human past. She's not a bad person, but very gullible and would do anything to be admired by the elvish nobility. Therefore she wouldn't openly support any rebels. If it was up to her, all humans would be killed and be done with it. She does feel pity for children and dragons though. Sometimes, her old affection for her twin breaks through, and that's why Barrick's still alive. Anderson became king and forced Briony to chose to obey him or have Wash's life taken. She chose to kill her own elder brother, knowing who he was at the time. Anderson did not let him die, although he appeared to. Barrick is struggling to forgive her for this, even is Wash has already. Lumen, the twins mother, is determined to make Briony a proper elven lady with her return, though her affection for her own daughter seems scarce at best.
Galahad - (Liam Neeson) - dragon - probably the oldest dragon alive. In the first wars, he was Cynthia's leading dragon, and he has a complicated but affectionate relationship with her. After the wars all surviving dragons were to be killed, but Cynthia hid Galahad in a cave, both of them pretending he was her prisoner, when both knew it was a farce. He has never lived among humans, and hardly ever even used his elvish form, so he's rather...unused to their company. He does not feel attached to any of those races, but he likes Cynthia well enough and he adores Raine, thinking Raine is his only relative in the world. It was for Raine that he left his safe hiding and attacked Saxon, knowing that he'd probably never survive it. Years before he fell in love with a human woman, who wanted a child from him. Unbeknown to him, she left him after getting what she wanted, not because he failed in impregnating her.
Sassy - (Christina Ricci) - made elf - Went mad when her husband Eclipse was killed by Saxon, but with her friends and even Saxon's help, making her elf, did not soothe her. She had a son, Galdor with Eclipse, and a daughter, Aurora with Saxon.
Emerald - (Sharbat Gula) - human - 18, Beaten into submission, Emerald firmly believes humans are far inferior to elves. She is loyal to Cynthia and grateful the woman is not nearly as harsh as other elves, like Anderson had been to her.
Cynthia - (Monica Bellucci) - elf - She's the Commander of the king's army. Her sister Lumen wandered across the shadowline many years ago, and it was not until the war against the humans started that she found out what had become of her. Orlén, Barrick's and Briony's father, King of the land called "southmarch", close to the shadowline, had caught the elf and had forced her to bear him his heirs - Barrick and Briony. Briefly after the twins were born, their mother took her own life because she couldn't live with the degradation of being the king's prisoner, and being forced to five him children. That is why Cynthia hates Barrick most of all, even though they seem to have some kind of inner bond. Cynthia's own family was killed during the first war against the humans, more than two hundred years ago. She's still very bitter about that. She believes that the humans deserve what they're getting now, that they are, in fact, lesser beings, but she's not really cruel, she does not enjoy to inflict pain on them, except for Barrick of course. She has fallen in love with Fred, a slave, something she finds difficult to come to terms with. Anderson has decided to make her his queen, despite his seemingly constant disappointment in her as of late.
Sarah - (Zooey Deschnell) - human - 16, Once a slave she's still having trouble adjusting to being an elf even after an entire year. She tries her best to help her friends and is occasionally pursued romantically by Telmar. Is not as brave as her friends want to think and they often forget she's not yet an adult because of her change. Felt rather empty and depressed after being turned elf, but Anderson turned her human, despite Telmar's begging to marry her.
Telmar - (Elijah Wood) - elf - Anderson's younger cousin, and just a cruel as the new king. Telmar is equally feared among slaves, however his childish temper when he doesn't get what he wants is less impressive among the elves. He seems to resent his elder cousin for becoming King, as Anderson has given him nothing other than a room in the castle. He cares deeply for Sarah, but refuses to marry her when she is human, and not elf, once more.
Arlen - (Kit Harington) - He's between 19 and 25, he doesn't really know himself. He's been captured early on in the war, but unfortunately not by elves. Orcs snatched him up and they tortured him just for the fun of it, before one of their elvish captains recognized his cooking talent and set him to that. After the war, he was sold to Khaffeet, who'd made good profit with his pastries. He's the quiet sort - had to be, as he was Khaffeet's only slave. A big scar runs diagonally through his face - a result from the only time he'd shown defiance to the orcs. That had been when they'd killed his sister, infront of his eyes.

SCOTT
Fred - (Ioan Gruffudd) human - 32, Fedeger commonly known as Fred. Cynthia's head slave, fair and just, looks out for the others as much as he can within reason. Is deadly loyal to Cynthia as he's in love with her. Once a blacksmith, he had a wife and several children, all deceased.
Mack - (Benjamin McKenzie) - human - 17, He escaped from the elves during the hectic sorting of the slaves. When he found the rebels he began training and getting ready to fight the elves. He's loyal, quite and level-headed. Once a part of the small band of rebels that consisted of himself, Wash, and Henry (deceased).
Silvanus - (James McAvoy) - elf - A young elf who was very close to Eclipse (Sassy's dead husband) growing up. Now a simple foot soldier. He is on the humans side but has done things that he is not proud of.
